Why Uncharted Japan?

During our 37 years of marriage, we have travelled extensively throughout Japan, often to places that are off the beaten path. It is our love of Japan by which we share this insider’s knowledge with you via the Uncharted Japan website and the Uncharted Japan YouTube channel.  But what makes our perspective different from all the others out there?

In 1861, my wife’s great, great-grandparents arrived in Japan just a few years after Japan opened up to the West. They went there to serve as missionaries and from that time forward, four generations of her family have been born in Japan. Therefore, we have a rich history and many contacts in Japan and still maintain the family home north of Nagano. To my knowledge, no one in the online Japan travel community or YouTube has such a background.

If you want to really get to know Japan, then you need to venture beyond the major cities and tourist spots. That’s where we can help.
