Been a while since our last video upload (Glimpses of Japan) and our One Year Anniversary video. Doesn’t mean we’re not researching and planning for future videos. However, after a solid 15 months of travelling throughout Japan, creating around 70 videos and reaching over 5,000 subscribers, its time to get back to my “day job”. You see, Youtube simply doesn’t pay for a creator with content like Uncharted Japan I believe in part because we focus on the less known, less travelled places versus the main tourist hot spots that other channels feature. That is, people simply don’t know to search for places such as Izushi, Mojiko or Aizuwakamatsu which are amazing places that are “authentic Japan” yet without the crowds. Therefore, Youtube doesn’t push our videos as they don’t show up in many search results. Not a complaint…..its just the way it is. If one covers the most searched subjects, then one gets more views, but that was never our goal.
Regardless, we do cover Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto, however our passion is that of the less crowded and unique parts of Japan of which most visitors are unaware. Nor do we use “bait and switch” titles or thumbnail images with crazy artwork or expressions on one’s face. We like to think we’re a notch above those who feature sophomoric stunts and attention grabbing titles. This means that the Uncharted Japan channel will not likely ever reach a mass audience, and that’s okay. Why?
Because we simply love sharing our unique knowledge of the country anyway. In our first year, we’ve received countless comments and emails from viewers who expressed their appreciation for our videos. Many have said ours is refreshingly different and more professionally done than most out there. We’ve even been recognized a few times by viewers while in Japan.
So we’ll soon get back to producing videos, albeit at an easier pace. And in the meantime, I hope you’ll go back and replay one or two videos and please share with others you know that may find our video content helpful and entertaining!
