Tokyo or Nagoya? You don’t have to choose one or the other, visit both! Everyone knows and visits Tokyo, and that’s one reason why most of the major tourist sites in Tokyo are covered up with people. So get away from the crowds by visiting Nagoya!
Both cities have great museums, historic sites and day trips. Both have excellent food and hotels. But Tokyo has something Nagoya does not, and that is the crowds. Most visitors to Japan go to Tokyo and Osaka, the two largest cities in Japan connected by the shinkansen bullet train. But smack in the middle on the same rail line is Nagoya. Nearly everyone zips right past, and that’s a good thing for you if you visit Nagoya because it means there are fewer crowds in this amazing city.
Check out the Meiji Mura Village, a reproduction townscape featuring houses and buildings from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. Or visit the SCMALEV museum which highlights the magnetic levitating trains that can travel at over 300 MPH. Then there’s Nagoya Castle and Palace. Tokyo doesn’t have a castle, but Nagoya has TWO. Check out the Kiyosu Castle here.
